CSX station may move to new home in November

According to a report by the Middletown Journal-News, Hamilton’s CSX train station, which has been a landmark in the city since the 1850s, could be relocated in November.

The station, which consists of a single-story structure and a two-story structure, has experienced several delays in making its journey to its new location. For a while, it looked as though the station would remain in its current spot until 2023. However, Hamilton’s city engineering director, Rich Engle, explained to the Journal-News that everything appears to be in order for a November relocation, although a specific date had not been determined.

Historical structures are generally included in the promotional materials cities provide to a brochure printing service.

CSX donated the station to Hamilton in mid-2021 and asked that it be removed from CSX property by May, but groundwork in preparation for the move has proved complex. The unexpected difficulties encountered included the discovery by Coon Restoration, the contractor engaged to prepare the one-story building, that the structure did not sit on a concrete slab as originally believed. In actuality, there is a wood floor with a concrete cap atop a four-foot basement. In order to properly lift the structure, Wolf House Building & Movers will have to fill in that space.

The city has budgeted $2m to complete the move.
