The multi-faceted job Moats will be turning over to Porter involves overseeing the city’s water, natural gas, electric, storm water and wastewater as well as the city’s engineering operations and public works. Hamilton is the sole city in Ohio to assume responsibility for all these utilities. The department has an operating budget of over $179 million and 270 employees.
Hamilton has been a pioneer in the matter of municipal operations in Ohio. The community owns a trio of hydroelectric plans, two of which are on the Ohio River and the third of which is along the Great Miami River. The city’s tap water has won several awards over the years for its taste and along Ohio 4 Hamilton’s natural gas utility supplies natural gas for trucks.
Porter, who has been employed by the city in its utility operations group since August of 2017, is still in the process of salary negotiations for his new position.
