Childrens Museum closed due to Union Terminal repairs

A decision was made by officials at the Cincinnati Museum Center to temporarily close the Children’s Museum, due to the unforeseen impact of repairs to the Union Terminal facility.

Extensive repairs are being carried out at one of the Queen City’s gems, Union Terminal, which became obsolete with the decline in rail travel and was then renovated to house the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History. The iconic Cincinnati landmark has suffered extensive water damage during its 84-year history.

The plan was to keep the Duke Energy Children’s Museum open during most of the renovations. However, when it became obvious that the area would be an active construction zone, it was announced on Tuesday that the Children’s Museum would closed through next spring.

Once the $213m renovations are completed to the point that all of Museum Center’s features are open, it is likely that brochure printers will be notified and a large promotion campaign launched for its reopening.

For families across the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky area, the timing for the closure is unfortunate. With children out of school during the holidays, families in Hamilton and elsewhere often choose this time to take a family outing to the Museum Center. Once there, they can visit the Children’s Museum, Museum of Natural History & Science, Cincinnati History Museum, and Omni-Max Theater.

Holiday Junction, which is hosting ‘Brickopolis’ this year, will remain open throughout the holidays.
