Fairfield City Council has given its approval for the acting city manager to seek two Ohio Public Works Commission Grants, amounting in total to $900,000.
The grants would be used for two projects – one that would improve two intersection turn lanes on Pleasant Avenue, and another for Ohio 4 south of the Ohio 4 Bypass. These two projects are on routes that handle about 60,000 cars per day.
Printing services are helpful to municipalities when they need signage explaining traffic delays.
Project No.1 involves widening Pleasant Avenue to accommodate turn lanes at two locations - Pleasant Avenue south of Happy Valley Drive, and at Calumet Way. If approved the city would receive $300,000 from a OPWC grant of the total cost of $627,055.
Project No. 2 would involve the repaving of Ohio 4’s southern portion in 2023. This project would cost $2.5m, with approximately $1.5m being supplied by the Ohio Department of Transportation. One of the sought-after Ohio Public Works Commission Grants would provide $600,000 to help the city come up with the local match.
Part of this second project will include work that extends into Springdale. For this, Springdale will repay Fairfield for work done within its city limits.
Among the work involved in these projects are pavement widening, partial reconstruction of curbs and curb ramps, grading, milling, storm sewer improvements, and any necessary adjustments to sanitary manholes.
