Fairfield recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Butler County's MetroParks system, which will enable both entities to improve parks in the area.
The partnership will allow the two entities to leverage resources for property acquisition, grand funding, and staffing. The first project the two are likely to collaborate on is Marsh Park.
According to Mark Wendling, Fairfield's city manager, the property offers many options because it is unique. At the moment, Marsh Park comprises 30 acres and has a lake in which people pay to fish, and a walking path. The project would expand the property into a 170-acre site offering two large lakes and a walking path just over three miles long, all in an L-shaped area along River Road on the west side of Fairfield.
The renovation would connect the new park to the area across River Road known as Black Bottom, which is an undeveloped 30-acre park that lies adjacent to the Great Miami River. New activities in Marsh Park will likely include swimming or SCUBA races, and triathlons, while a campground could be located at Black Bottom. The planned lake will also be much larger than the one in West Chester Township's MetroPark, and offer many more possibilities.
Fairfield officials might like to work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for the city's residents describing this project.
