Fairfield seeks bids for new roundabout

Fairfield recently announced it will soon be building its first roundabout, and has asked for bids for the project, which is to be completed this coming summer.

Fairfield officials described the roundabout, which will be located at River and Gray Roads, as “traffic calming,” meaning a way to slow traffic and reduce potential incidents. The construction is set to be finished before Marsh Park is developed and expanded. The roundabout will also extend the Great Miami River Trail that runs through Marsh Park, and is also being built in response to the opening of the first dog park in Fairfield, which is south of the roundabout’s site.

The proposed roundabout will be a three-way configuration, as opposed to the more common four-way design already in use in many communities. The Butler County Engineer’s Office has built the three-way style roundabout elsewhere in the region, and Ben Mann, Fairfield’s city engineer, says that’s one reason for using this design—people are already familiar with it.

The new construction will include improvements to curbs and ditches, drainage improvements, and LED light, among other features. Officials dealing with new construction such as this could use poster printing to indicate to drivers how to navigate the roundabout.

Bidders must get their sealed proposals for roundabout construction to the city’s finance department by 3:00 pm on February 11. The price quoted in the bid must remain firm for the following 120 days.
