Harbin Park, the largest in the City of Fairfield, is scheduled for a makeover.
Brandstetter Carroll Inc. presented the first of the required three readings to the city council last week. Brandstetter is the company that was in charge of improvements to the city's Aquatic Center, according to Fairfield's parks director, Jim Bell. The company is asking for $50,000 to be set aside for the project.
Harbin Park hosts thousands of visitors annually, and is popular because of the many amenities it offers, including snow hills for sledding. Events held there include a Fourth of July celebration known as ‘Red, White, and Kaboom’.
The park was originally an old farm that was bought by the city in the 1970s. It was updated in the mid-1980s and early 1990s, but no improvements have been made since then.
In addition to maintaining the current park amenities, plans call for expanding and improving trails, and making connections between them and nearby neighborhoods. A paved hiking and biking path around the perimeter is also planned. The suggestions are based largely on input from Fairfield citizens.
Three more public meetings are scheduled: two for residents to provide input, and one to review conceptual art. In order to insure maximum participation, city officials might consider working with a postcard printing company on a card for Mailing to residents, reminding them of the meetings.Get a Free Quote for Mailing
