Fairfield nonprofits team up for fundraiser

Two local nonprofits are teaming up to create a joint fundraiser.

The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League and Dougie & Ray's are partnering to host the first-ever Cannonball for Kids, a fundraiser that will profit both organizations.

Uncertainty over the health crisis has led to both individuals and businesses cutting back on their donations to charitable causes. In addition, many annual fundraising events have been canceled, leaving these organizations struggling. However, Dougie & Ray's founder, Ted McDaniel, had a conversation with local Pastor Billy Bruns, who challenged McDaniel to “think outside the box.” He did, and Cannonball for Kids was born.

A total of 48 cannonballers will take part in the event, which will be held at the Rolling Hills Swim and Tennis Club. McDaniel says he hopes to have school administrators, coaches, teachers, city officials, firefighters, police officers, and local celebrities take a jump into the pool.

People can support the event two ways: businesses can buy $50 sponsorships; and “bounty pledges” will also be available. A “bounty” will be put on each cannonballer, and individuals can donate to make up the bounty. A free t-shirt will go to anyone giving $50 or more.

Cannonball for Kids takes place next Tuesday, August 4, and people can attend in-person, but social distancing will be maintained. However, the event is going to be live streamed on the two organizations' Facebook pages. Banner printing can be used to create fun decorations for outdoor events like this.
