Master of Americana music coming to Cincinnati

A musician, singer, author, and songwriter who is praised for his narrative lyrics and mastery of the Americana style will be in Cincinnati soon.

Josh Ritter is a native of Moscow, Idaho who records and performs with the Royal City Band. He became fascinated with music when he was a child and listened to “Girl from the North Country” by Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. After high school he attended Oberlin College in Ohio studying neuroscience, following both his parents. However, he found himself becoming more interested in music. He eventually created a new major for the college, "American History Through Narrative Folk Music."

After college he studied in Scotland for six months, then returned to Rhode Island, where he played open mics and did odd jobs around Providence and Boston, Massachusetts. Glen Hansard, an Irish musician, heard Ritter and invited him to return with him to Ireland and open for The Frames, Hansard’s band.

Since then, Ritter has appeared at venues throughout the world, and has built up an impressive discography, including 13 studio albums. He dropped his latest, “I Believe in You, My Honeydew,” earlier this year.

A live review says:

“Josh Ritter put on one hell of a show. . . . He is truly one of the most underappreciated artists of today.”

Josh Ritter will be at the Taft Theatre on Tuesday, November 4. Performances like this are often advertised with Posters, which organizers can find at Print shops.
