A selection of shorts from the Wild & Scenic Film Festival will be screened in Canton this April, as part of a special event to kick off Earth Day celebrations.
The screening will feature short films from around the world, focused on nature, animals, and environmental conservation. Films include “River Cowboys: Keepin’ It Wild,” featuring a cleanup in Kentucky’s Red River valley; “Friends of the Frogpool Lane,” about volunteers helping frogs and salamanders find their way to the wetlands; and “The Bees and the Birds,” on the title animals’ connection to community gardens.
These shorts were first exhibited at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival event in California, hosted by the South Yuba River Citizen’s League, in February. The films are now on tour and screened virtually. Many specialty film festivals use this type of touring screening to help connect with audiences around the world, often with accompanying talks, and poster printing used to disseminate information.
The Canton screening of the Film Festival is hosted by Stark Parks and the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation, aiming to promote conservation in Ohio. The park department has been noted in the past for its “Earth Day Every Day” series, which has included trail clean-ups along local paths and environmental education events.
The 2026 Wild & Scenic Film Festival screening will take place on Friday, April 10 at the Canton Cultural Center for the Arts, with free admission to advanced ticket purchasers.
