Tickets on sale for Canton comedy shows

Beloved comedienne Vicki Lawrence will be in Canton in May for a pair of shows.

Lawrence is a gifted comic who became involved in ‘The Carol Burnett Show’, which also featured Burnett herself, along with Tim Conway, Lyle Waggoner, Eddie Anderson, and Harvey Korman. The show ran for eleven seasons, from 1967 to 1978. During its seventh year, Lawrence created the character of Thelma Harper, better known as ‘Mama’ to her many fans. Mama will be appearing with Lawrence at the Canton shows.

Lawrence will be first on the stage, and says the show will not have a retrospective theme, but will be a mix of music, stand-up comedy, and her observations of real life. After Lawrence, Mama will appear and share some of the forceful opinions for which she is well-known.
Lawrence says she is developing new material for Mama and that it is more cutting-edge and contemporary, but warns people to expect the unexpected where Mama's concerned. She notes people will be looking forward to Mama, but hopes audiences will enjoy the rest of the performance as well.

Theater management could work with a poster printing company to create colorful placards to display throughout the city.

Tickets are on sale now for the shows, which are slated for May 20, a Tuesday, at 2:00 pm and 7.30 pm at the Canton Palace Theatre. Interested parties should contact the theater for details.
