The Canton Symphony will be kicking off its 2026-27 series this September, looking to highlight great works of classical music past and present.
The season premiere will be “Masterworks I: Dvorak’s New World”, continuing the tradition of the Symphony’s Masterworks series. The concert, conducted by Wesley Schulz, will open with Omar Thomas’ piece Come Sunday, which incorporates the Hammond organ and inspiration from Black Gospel traditions. The group is searching for a new Music Director this year, and finalists such as Schultz will be showing their stuff on-stage.
This will be followed by Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto in D Major, which drew inspiration from film scores, with accompaniment from violinist Rachel Lee Priday. Following an intermission, audiences will experience a title piece, one of nineteenth-century composer Dvorak’s signature work composed during his time in the United States.
The Symphony has also announced a full schedule for its fifth season, beginning with the September concert and continuing with six more Masterworks series highlighting composers ranging from Beethoven to Shostakovich. The group will also feature special concerts featuring holiday songs and the music of Queen. Classical groups like this often use brochure printing and speeches to help give the music historical context.
“Masterworks I: Dvorak’s New World” will take place on September 26 at the Zimmerman Symphony Center in Canton.
