Special film presentation in Canton

A film made in Ohio will be presented soon in Canton.

The Canton Palace Theatre and IFC Films will team up to show “Holler,” which was shot in Ohio. Flyer printing can be used to advertise events like this.

The director, Nicole Riegel, filmed the movie in Jackson, Ohio, her hometown, in the middle of winter. The film is a study in the reality of class mobility and the struggles of ordinary Americans to survive a system rigged against them in favor of the wealthy.

Ruth (Jessica Barden), a senior in high school, has been accepted to college, but can’t afford it. With their mother sitting in jail, Ruth and her older brother are struggling to keep the family together and accept dangerous work illegally stripping metal from abandoned factories so Ruth can get away.

One critic singled out Barden’s performance and also said:

“. . . the characters are the reason to watch. No one plays the stereotype . . .”

In order to keep patrons safe, the theater will accept pre-orders for concessions, which will then be delivered to patrons at their seats.

“Holler” will be shown on June 11 at 7.30 pm, with the doors opening at 6.30 pm. Tickets are $7 and all seats are reserved, so anyone interested will need to call the box office to reserve seats. The film is not yet rated and has a running time of 90 minutes.
