Snow and cold were not enough to stop Canton residents from enjoying a ‘Souper’ meal late last month.
About 200 people attended the ‘Souper Bowl’, held in Canton Township, at the Meyers Lake Ballroom. The event, which was organized by the Mercy Service League and held January 25, was a fundraiser in support of Mercy Medical Center. This is the second year of the event.
Adding to the fun was the fact that attendees wore jerseys for their favorite teams, and most shared observations about the athletes. Eddie Elum, a municipal court judge, dressed in a Cleveland Browns jersey, and predicted that his impersonation was as close to the Super Bowl the Browns were likely to get.
The variety of soups available came from 10 different local restaurants. Cassie Ausperk and Tony Ly brought Sopa Marisco from Tapas 218, Jaime Stickle and Jill Sullivan served Tim's Tavern's version of New England clam chowder, and the Whipple Cafe's Lisa Pizzino provided stuffed pepper soup.
Other potages included a classic onion soup courtesy of Table 6, tomato bisque provided by Fisher's Catering, and an Italian wedding soup, served by Rob Collins of Grinder's.
Organizers could build on this year's event by working with banner printers to create colorful Banners for indoor use, hanging one above each restaurant's area so patrons can find them easily.Get a Free Quote for Banners
