A new exhibit was recently opened honoring players from colleges and universities that are predominantly black.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame now has a permanent exhibit known as the Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHF). Although the organization has existed for 10 years, this is its first permanent location. It is also the first exhibit of this type in the Hall of Fame, as it recognizes legends from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Brochure printing can provide information pamphlets about exhibits like this.
The executive director of the BCFHF, Marques Fitch, says seeing the exhibit gives him chills, because he has been with the organization since the beginning. He also notes that it is impossible to tell the story of football as a sport without including HBCU football, because the black players broke barriers and overcame obstacles to play the sport they love.
James Harris is one of the players. He began his career in the 1960s at Grambling State, but was afraid he would never be able to play professionally because of segregation. In 1969, though, Harris opened the season for the Buffalo Bills as their quarterback, becoming the first black player to do so. He went on to found the BCFHF with another Grambling graduate, Doug Williams. Williams also made history as the first black quarterback to lead his team, the Washington Redskins, to victory in the Super Bowl.
