High schools stage food fight for the hungry

Canton's McKinley High School is locked in combat with Massillon High School to determine the winner of a food fight. According to an October 26, 2015 news item, the area high schools are vying to see who can collect the most food to feed the area's hungry. This is the fourth year in a row for the McKinley–Massillon event, and fans, faculty, and students are asked to help their favorite by donating nonperishable foods.

All the food will go to the Stark County Hunger Task Force, which will distribute it via its network. The task force has over 30 food pantries throughout the county. During the last two fights, food donations amounted to more than 38,000 pounds.

People who want to help can drop off their food gifts at a number of locations, including McKinley High and Massillon High; the offices of the Stark County Hunger Task Force, the WHBC/Mix 94.1 radio station, or the Pro Football Hall of Fame, all in Canton.

Rallies to fight hunger are planned for October 30 at Canton and Massillon Dunkin’ Donuts shops, and people may make monetary donations there if they choose. Every dollar given will be counted as a seven-pound credit to the school of the donor's choosing, as well as providing seven pounds of food.

Event organizers could work with a flyer printing company on a handout to be distributed near the Dunkin' Donuts locations, to remind people of the upcoming drive.
