An opportunity to learn more about K-9 police officers and have fun at the same time is coming up in Canton.
The 2020 PK9A K-9 5K has been put on the calendar, offering both a 5K and a one-mile walk, with all proceeds going to support the non-profit Police K-9 Association. The organization was formed in 1985 to help support the Canton K-9 units, and has grown to the point where it now supports over 40 K-9 teams throughout the state.
The association offers free weekly training, and prepares and certifies the K-9 units for use in various law enforcement activities, including patrol and explosives detection. It also provides veterinary care for retired K-9s, and end-of-life care as well. The upcoming event is the association's biggest fundraiser.
People are encouraged to register their dogs; when they do, they will receive a complimentary PK9A dog tag. A free race for children 12 and under is called the “Chase the Tails” event, and those who would rather watch are invited to the “Spectator Here for Beer” event. For those unable to attend the race, there is a virtual option, and a K-9 demonstration will top off the fun. The day winds down with a party after the race at Canton Brewing Company.
The race is scheduled for October 10, from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm, at Canton Brewing Company. Banner printing can be used to create course markers for outdoor events like this.
