Work has begun on the transformation of Fishers Foods in Canton into a Family Dollar store. Cocca Development, a Boardman company, is the developer on the project.
Cocca purchased the grocery store in September from Fishers, which shut it down in Janaury. V&R Construction, which is a Cocca company, started working on the project in November. According to its website, Cocca now has 10 different construction projects in work in Wisconsin, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. The developer builds and leases spaces for retail enterprises throughout the nation.
Cocca Development was founded in 1999, and combined the various real estate properties owned by Anthony L. Cocca. The company has grown to the point where it now has commercial properties in over 25 states. Many of the sites that are freestanding are leased to Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, or Dollar General.
For its part, Family Dollar was begun in 1959, and is now a subsidiary of Dollar Tree, with which it merged in 2014. Stark County is home to over 20 Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores. Opening days for companies like this are often a lot of fun, and managers can work with a banner printing company to create a banner to decorate the new store and welcome customers.
No opening date has been given for Canton's new Family Dollar, which is located on Harrison Avenue SW.
