Canton residents who want to make their holiday meals healthier have an opportunity to learn how to do just that later this week.
According to an announcement on its website, the Mercy Heart Center will hold a free cooking program for community residents, where people can discover ways to make healthier versions of their holiday favorites.
The event, entitled ‘Heart Healthy Holiday Cooking’, will include nutritious recipes, taste tests, and a presentation given by Kathy Wise, who is a dietician and director of several weight management and health and wellness programs at the center. The taste tests will include two versions—healthier and traditional—of two holiday favorites; cheese balls and chocolate truffles.
The center is offering the demonstration as a local sponsor of the Go Red For Women initiative of the American Heart Association. The holiday cooking class is just one of many events held at Mercy during the past year.
Mercy Heart Center is a leader in cardiovascular treatment, and has a high success rate in helping patients recover and return to full and active lives.
The program is slated for Mercy Hall Auditorium on Thursday, December 3, from noon to 1:30 pm. The event is free, but reservations are required because of limited seating. Center officials might consider working with a flyer printing company to create attractive packets of the recipes used at the demonstration, as well as tips about heart health.
