Coming soon to Canton - "nyuk, nyuk, nyuk

It is one of the most annoying, and iconic, sounds in entertainment, and it will soon be heard in Canton.

“Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk” is a sort of snort/laugh that became a trademark of “Curly,” one of the Three Stooges. The trio of bumbling goofballs took slapstick comedy to violent heights, bopping each other on the head and poking at one another’s eyes, and entertained millions of viewers in the process.

During the act’s almost-50 year run, there were six Stooges, although only three performed at any one time. Larry Fine and Moe Howard remained with the act throughout its history, with the third Stooge rotating among “Curly Joe” DeRita, Joe Besser, Shemp Howard, and “Curly” Howard.

The Stooges’ peak popularity was during the period of 1934 to 1946, when the team comprised Moe and “Curly” Howard and Larry Fine. They made more than 90 shorts for Columbia during this time.

The Palace Theatre in downtown Canton is the host of the Three Stooges Film Fest. The event is only 90 minutes in length, and features four short films by the antic trio. Admission is $10, and the event is on April 9. The doors open at 6.30 pm with the films beginning an hour later. Attendees also have the option of pre-ordering concessions, which they will pick up before the start of the show. Poster printing gives organizers of this type of event the perfect tool for creating effective advertising for the show.
