Classic rock awaits in Canton

An iconic band that was part of the soundtrack of the 1970s is coming to Canton.

The beloved band America first got together in London late in the 1960s, with high school friends Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and the late Dan Peek the founders. They were all Americans whose parents were stationed in the U.K. In 1971, they dropped their debut album “America,” which included their hit “I Need You.” Later that year, they released “A Horse with No Name” as a single and it became a huge hit, and their signature tune. That success led them to re-release their album, this time with “Horse” included.

They continued to release albums that almost always contained tracks that were major hits, such as the single “Ventura Highway,” which was on 1972’s “Homecoming.” Two more hits, “Daisy Jane” and “Sister Golden Hair,” were on “Hearts,” dropped in 1975. Their prolific recording career resulted in five No. 1 singles, 47 singles, 22 compilation albums, 11 live albums, and 23 studio albums to date.

A review says:

“Sunday night was a tribute to the timelessness of America’s music. . . . Four decades after its heyday, America has maintained its original hypnotizing and uplifting sound without growing stale”

America will be at the Canton Palace Theatre on March 16. There are several ticket packages available. When events like this are scheduled, organizers will find using poster printing to create advertising is a successful way to attract audiences.
