Canton student recognized

An online school recently recognized a Canton student for achievements both inside and outside the virtual classroom.

The Star Students of the Month program of the Ohio Connections Academy (OCA) recognized Canton's To'Mya Reed as April's Star Student. She gained recognition for her leadership and achievements in the virtual classroom.

Mrs. Waltjen, To'Mya's teacher, nominated the fourth-grader because of her attitude, particularly her resolve to better herself. Winning the Star Student designation means that To'Mya will be profiled in the student newsletter published by OCA, and the profile will be posted on the academy website. She was also in receipt of a certificate. Officials in situations such as this might consider using poster printing to create a special display of their honorees.

To'Mya started studying at OCA about half-way through the current school year, where she found the environment supportive and nurturing, according to her mother, Melissa. Melissa added To'Mya is performing well because of the availability of the staff, the flexibility of the schedule, and the assignments, which are well-designed.

OCA is an online, free, virtual public school that enrolls students in grades kindergarten through 12, who study from home. The academy uses technology along with a proven curriculum, community experiences, and certified teachers to support children who want to approach their education individually. The academy honors students each month for their hard work and individual achievements.
