Canton officials are working to redevelop 26 acres of properties that lie abandoned along 13th Street NE, an area that lies just to the north of the old Republic Storage complex. Eslich Wrecking bought the Republic property, which comprises almost one million square feet, in the hope of redeveloping it, most probably to be used by more than one organization since it is so large.
Eslich's work on the Republic complex, coupled with the city's 26-acre redevelopment, totals to over 60 acres the city could use for industrial development, according to the Canton Community Improvement Corporation's business development manager, Rafael Rodriguez.
The city has partnered with the Ohio EPA to work on pollution difficulties at the sites of Ohio Cast Products and Weber Dental. Work at Ohio Cast is in the second phase, while that at Weber Dental is just beginning. Rodriguez hopes that work, which includes demolishing buildings in both areas can begin this year.
Ohio Cast declared bankruptcy in 2004, and a fire in Weber Dental closed the complex in 2011. Stark County foreclosed on both, and the Sheriff's Department held sales, but no bids were forthcoming, so Canton assumed control of the sites. This allows the city and state to work together on cleaning up the area.
The goal of this work is to keep manufacturing companies in Canton, or bring new ones to the city. Agencies like these can benefit from using Presentation Folders to organize material to present to others.
