Pakeen Farm, a commercial farm in Canton, has officially launched its fall harvest season, bringing with it a food share, pumpkin patch, and more.
The fall season at the farm officially runs from Labor Day to Thanksgiving but reaches its apex in October, when visitors from throughout the Boston area come to pick up pumpkins for Halloween and enjoy a fall day out. During the fall season, Pakeen Farm offers its signature fresh mini-donuts and other baked goods. The farm is home to a large apple orchard with more than a dozen varieties. Apple picking will not be available to visitors this fall, as the orchard is still developing, but fresh apples and homemade apple pies and ciders from neighboring farms are available.
Pakeen Farm will also be offering a special fall edition of its Community Supported Agriculture program. This program sees consumers purchase shares in a farm’s harvest before it is grown, providing reliable support for the farm and the potential for discounts on a bumper crop. In addition to the year-round program, Pakeen offers a fall program that includes vegetables such as winter squash, potatoes, multi-colored beets, and more, sourced from Pakeen and other area farms. Options like this, often promoted through brochure printing and social media, can be appealing to a “foodie” demographic looking for locally-grown food.
Pumpkin sales will be available at Pakeen Farm from Thursday to Sunday in Canton until the end of October, with other fall harvest celebrations going until Thanksgiving.
