Canton police officers had a pleasant surprise for a change recently, according to an article on CantonRep.com.
On July 26, officers found blue-tinged white roses on their cruisers, along with cards of support. The flowers and cards were left anonymously, and surprised all the police who drive the vehicles. Later, police found out that the items had been left by “two younger girls” who were spotted as they passed out the greetings. The cards said simply: “We see you. We support you. We honor you.”
Captain Dave Davis, the patrol division's head, said he did not know what organization the girls represented, or why they had distributed the flowers and cards, but he did say all the officers were very appreciative of the fact that someone recognized their efforts.
Lieutenant John Gabbard agreed with Davis, saying the gesture was wonderful. He added that no one goes into police work to win recognition, and that knowing the community supports the department has made everyone feel good. He called the gesture “humbling” and is grateful that the young women took time to recognize the work the police do, and let them know the community supports them.
Gabbard also said that many of the officers brought the cards and roses into the headquarters building, and placed them throughout the offices, so everyone could see them wherever they looked.
