Justin Diamond, a medical student in his fourth year at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, has been invited by physicians at the Northern Westchester Hospital of Northwell Health in Mt. Kisco to collaborate on a study to explore the use of specific drugs.
Diamond, who is planning to graduate in May 2022 and then begin his residency in anesthesiology, said that this study will help physicians in Northern Westchester learn more about the practices related to prescribing drugs, and the type and amount of pain medication taken by patients. He added that the research will also be valuable to patients in making them aware of how much medication they need in given situations.
Warren Bromberg, MD, FACS, chief of the Division of Urology at Northern Westchester Hospital and director for the Center for Robotic Surgery, said that the findings of this study corroborate those of many other studies across the country. He added that there are many prescribing practices carried out by physicians without there being any widely accepted prescribing guidelines based on evidence.
Dr. Bromberg is currently working with administrators at Northern Westchester Hospital as they look to develop education for patients and a model for prescribing standards that can be used by hospitals and physicians across the country.
