Sporting goods store sparks excitement in Mt. Kisco

Modell’s Sporting Goods recently opened in downtown Mt. Kisco to a line of people who have been anxiously awaiting the event.

Once the home of a Borders bookstore, which was a destination location according to Mayor J. Michael Cindrich, Modell’s is expected to attract more new businesses to the downtown area.

This store is the seventh Modell’s in Westchester County. It is at the corner of Green and Main Streets, adjacent to the Mt. Kisco Theater.

The store is 12,800 square feet in size. On its opening day, red, white and blue bunting covered the exterior red brick. In the front windows were mannequins dressed in the latest sportswear, and an Adidas poster of well-known South American soccer players Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi was close to the front entrance.

Adidas Backpacks were also prominently displayed, as well as the store’s slogan “gotta go to Mo's” on another poster with a back-to-school theme.

The chief executive officer for Modell’s, Mitchell B. Modell, commented how good it feels to be in Mt. Kisco, as it has taken some time for the process of opening the store to come together. The building in which the store is located is co-owned by Stephen Lerner and Richard Grobman, two businessmen from the New York City area.

Banners could be used by Modell’s at other times for seasonal and other promotions.
