Special award for volunteer efforts to be bestowed on Mt. Kisco man

The Volunteer Spirit Awards, which will be given for the 38th consecutive year, will be presented during National Volunteer Week at a breakfast gala.

Alisa H. Kesten, Executive Director of Volunteer New York!, said that outstanding honorees from throughout Rockland, Putnam, and Westchester counties will be given six awards, with an additional Legacy Award to be given. These are given to people who volunteer their time to build their communities and local resources.

One of the award winners this year is Mel Berger of Mt. Kisco, who will be given the Safe Community Award for his work with The Emergency Shelter Partnership, along with Paul Alcorn from Bedford.

Some of the sponsors of the event include Regeneration, the White Plains and Burke Rehabilitation Hospitals, Keystone Property Group, and PCSB Bank.

Volunteer New York! was founded in 1949 by a group of women from Westchester County who wanted to develop a system to match individuals with meaningful volunteer opportunities.

The award ceremony will take place at the Westchester Marriot in Tarrytown, New York on April 20.

Print shops can be hired to create various types of printed materials to be displayed throughout the several counties involved in awards. This way, people in the community will be aware of the selfless efforts of such individuals.
