Sixth grader to appear in national food contest

Kaitlyn Tomeny of Yorktown Heights, just a short distance from Mt. Kisco, is currently appearing on MasterChef Junior, which airs on the FOX network.

The show is a cooking show for kids between the ages of 8 and 13. Tomeny is one of the 16 finalists on the show and has a chance to win $100,000.

The youngster been watching the show with her mother when she realized she could be a contestant on the show. She discovered the show was holding auditions in New York and when she was selected, she was flown to Los Angeles for filming. Chef Gordon Ramsay hosts the show and Tomeny found him funny and inspiring.

The dishes that she has created on the show have included the Kurger, which is a sirloin burger marinated with Korean spices, served with brussel sprout kimchee, and homemade chips accompanied by siracha mayo and a deconstructed Coquille St. Jacques, which are scallops served with made-from-scratch creamy mushroom fettuccine, served with an arugula, pomegranate, and lemon vinaigrette salad.

Tomeny’s plans for the money, if she wins, are to take her family on a tour of food capitals around the world, and to save money for college.

The show might consider using local Print companies to create Flyers and other informational materials so qualified kids can audition for the show in their local area.
