Seafood store marks 40 years in business

Mt. Kisco Seafood Day was recently declared, as Mt. Kisco Seafood celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Joe DiMauro, current owner of the store, started working there after graduating from Fox Lane High School in Mt. Kisco, where he grew up. He said that he always loved the sea and felt he had found his calling working in the fish business.

In 1979, he bought the store from its original owner. His fish comes from the Fulton Fish Market and he prides himself on knowing the names of all his customers.

Mt. Kisco Seafood is now at 477 Lexington Avenue, and after having moved there, the store also began to offer fruits and vegetables and fresh meats. Now it is like a farmers’ market, selling sauces, prepared soups, and dinners, made daily. Fresh spices, imported cheese, and gourmet condiments can also be purchased at the store.

DiMauro may have created Flyers that list all the items he sells along, with suggested recipes for their preparation and Menus for the catering services he offers in addition to his products.

The owner also gives back to the community. He has raised over $100,000 by taking part in seven Avon Walks for Breast Cancer. During a recent trip to Tanzania, he taught business skills, health, and English to teenagers living in a detention center.
