Mt. Kisco will be benefitting from legislation recently signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Some towns and villages in Westchester and Orange counties will be allowed to collect an extra tax on hotel rooms as a result of eight pieces of legislation the governor signed. This would be up to three percent on hotel stays, in addition to the sales tax and the three percent hotel occupancy tax of the county. According to the Journal News, these come as part of assurances by lawmakers to find a way to address local hotel taxes across the state.
Paul Feiner, Town Supervisor of Greenburgh, said that municipalities being able to collect the hotel occupancy tax could mean an additional $1 million in revenue for many villages within his town that have hotels.
Several Democratic members of the State Assembly wrote to Cuomo that these new pieces of legislation align with his efforts to reduce the burden of property taxes which many homeowners face. Many of these occupancy fees will come from visitors from out of state and so will raise revenues for local government operations that would otherwise be paid for by means of property taxes.
Hotels in Mt. Kisco that will benefit from this tax might consider using a local Print company to create materials with more information about this tax for its guests.
