New dean sets the Pace for computer science department

Jonathan Hill was recently named as the new dean of Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems at Pace University. He has served previously in the department as associate dean, and has been interim dean since September.

According to Hill, the counties of Fairfield and Westchester will become significant hubs of technology and the college needs to become a part of that. There are many unfilled technology jobs in these counties and young professionals are moving out of New York City to Mt. Kisco and Tarrytown to work for technology companies.

Graduates are looking to solve problems and at its heart, computer science is a discipline that solves problems, said Hill. He added that with all the opportunities that will be available and growing exponentially in the area, the school will grow and adjust its curriculum to meet the needs of the industry.

Hill’s career has been in both industry and academia. He is a principal at consulting firm EngineerRe, which advises organizations on ways they can change their operations to achieve optimal functionality. He came to Pace in 2003 and founded the Pace STEM Collaboratory and Seidenberg Creative Labs, of which he has also been the director.

Pace may turn to various printing services to inform the community of Hill’s appointment and what it means for the college and the community.
