National immunization awareness month stirs county to offer vaccines

The Westchester County Department of Health will be offering immunizations free of charge to children whose insurance does not cover these vaccines, or who are not insured at all.

These immunizations will be held at the County’s health clinics in Yonkers and White Plains, which is a short distance from Mt. Kisco.

According to Robert P. Astorino, Executive of Westchester County, children need to be in school to get the most out of it, and vaccines help them stay healthy throughout the year.

Families can sign their children up for appointments on Fridays in August and September, and these will be made on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. At the clinics, there will be healthcare professionals to help parents and guardians sign their children up for needed health insurance.

If a family does not have a regular doctor, information will be available about where to go for ongoing pediatric primary care. Local Print companies can be used to Print Flyers and other informational material about immunizations, pediatricians, and the need for maintaining children’s health.

Schools are now regulated so that they are more closely scrutinized with regard to children’s immunization records, meaning those children whose immunizations are not current may not be allowed to start or continue in school. These update regulations help to ensure increased protection against many childhood illnesses, such as measles, mumps and whooping cough.
