A proposed cell tower in Mt. Kisco will be relocated from a site that covers 25 acres on South Bedford Road to an area in Leonard Park.
Announcements of such decisions are often made known throughout a community with flyer printing.
Mayor Gina Picinich has supported the move as location on South Bedford Road would have been within less than 300 feet of two homes. By contrast, locating the cell tower in Leonard Park will be about 1,000 feet from the closest home.
Picinich added that other advantages of having the cell tower in the park are the number of the lease payments to the village as opposed to the privately-owned South Bedford Road property and that more residents of Mt. Kisco will benefit from the increased coverage. The estimates are that the village could receive about $60,000 a year based on the number of carriers using the tower. Leonard Park would be the beneficiary of the lease payments.
The tower at Leonard Park requires 4,550 square feet and another 6,600 square feet for the installation of a gravel path, 550 feet long and 12 feet wide for maintenance vehicles to get to the site.
Trustee Karen Schleimer said that placing the cell tower in the park also opens the possibility that the property on South Bedford Road could be obtained by the village through eminent domain for other uses.
