Mt. Kisco parade marked by community pride

Last Saturday afternoon, downtown Mt. Kisco was the place to be for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Featured in the parade were members of the local Ancient Order of Hibernians chapter which has been the sponsor of the parade for years. Also in procession were several bagpipe groups and members of Irish dancing schools.

To make the parade cater to children, there were students from St. Patrick's School from Bedford Village, and the Mt. Kisco Elementary School and West Patent Elementary School, as well as Girl Scout Brownies and Cub Scouts.

Civic groups were represented by the Mt. Kisco Historical Society, Mt. Kisco Rotary, and Mt. Kisco Lions. Local and regional officials were also part of the parade.

Police officers were represented by a group on motorcycles that came from various cities and towns in Westchester County, while firefighters from Chappaqua, Bedford Hills, and Mt. Kisco also participated.

The boys’ basketball team of Fox Lane High School was honored for its section title, as members of the team were carried through the parade on top of a fire truck with one player holding the trophy for the section title.

Banner printing was most likely widely used in the parade, as each group was preceded by a banner providing the name of the group and where they were from.
