Mt. Kisco home to new sewing camp this summer

Kim Mulcahy, a resident of Rye and founder of Sew Happy, is seeing a revival in sewing and has recently announced that she has expanded her class offerings to a summer camp program in Mt. Kisco, thanks to requests from existing customers.

It will be a Fashion Camp, offered to children between the ages 6 and 13. Students will learn skills in both machine and hand sewing, and make wearable and unique useable clothes.

Hand sewing skills learned will include applique and embroidery, while machine sewing will start with the basics and then progress to items such as shorts or skirts. Also planned is a fashion challenge to make garments from unorthodox materials, including trash and recyclables.

During the week, children will have the opportunity to win prizes with games and quizzes that will test their knowledge of sewing and fashion.

The last day will be a fashion show in which each student plays a part and photo booth. The students will plan and orchestrate both activities.

The camp will run from July 25 through July 29 at the Presbyterian Church from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day. Mulcahy might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company with Flyers and other printed materials to advertise this new camp to residents of Mt. Kisco and the surrounding communities.
