Hudson Valley Orienteering and Westmoreland Sanctuary in Mt. Kisco are collaborating to host the upcoming Raid the Sanctuary II later this month.
At the event, attendees will learn how to read a map and use a compass so that they can find their way from one point to another in the woods. Interactive characters will be on the trails to help people find their way, while others will be more of a distraction than an asset.
There will be three courses of beginner, intermediate, and advanced for two-person teams. The advanced course, called the Viking Course, is 10 miles long and starts at 9:00 am, while the intermediate course, called the Visigoths Course, is seven miles and starts at 9:30 am. Lastly, the easy course, called the Elf Course, is four miles long and can be completed as a team of two or individually.
Children under the age of 15 are welcome to attend the event but must be accompanied by an adult on the course. Those who are members of either organization receive a $5 discount per team.
The event will be on Saturday, April 30 starting at 8:00 am and running until 3:00 pm. The two organizations have worked together to hire a flyer printing company to Print a piece with information for people interested in the event, and details of how they can register for it.
