Mt. Kisco food drive honors MLK service day

As part of the annual Mark Luther King Jr. Day of Service projects offered by Volunteer New York!, the Mt. Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry will be holding a weeklong food drive this month.

People can take items to Volunteer New York! in Tarrytown and then, once all the food has been gathered, volunteers will deliver the food items to the Mt. Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry. They will then unpack, weigh, organize, and shelve these items.

Volunteer New York! is looking for families to help out in this endeavor. Children must be at least eight years of age and be accompanied by one adult. The request for volunteers of families is to engage youth in such endeavors and initiate their education about hunger and the needs of others in the community, so that they will be encouraged to take action.

The Mt. Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry is considered a “choice” pantry as it provides bread, frozen meats, fresh eggs and produce, and nonperishable food items. It will also deliver food to residents who have a documented mental or physical disability.

The food drive will run from Monday to Friday next week (January 11 to January 15). Volunteer New York may be looking to a local Print company to donate its services and Print materials promoting this food drive in the area, so that the Food Pantry can be filled and restocked for the New Year.
