C.J. Fraleigh is collaborating with Kohlberg & Company, L.L.C., an equity firm based in Mt. Kisco, to purchase Bakery from Tyson Foods, Inc. the businesses of Van and the Sara Lee Frozen
The brands of Van, Bistro Collection, and Chef Pierre will be acquired by Kohlberg & Company. In certain channels, the company will be granted a license to use the Sara Lee brand. A sales office in Canada and prepared foods facilities in Traverse City, Michigan and Tarboro, North Carolina will also become part of the company.
Group president of Prepared Foods for Tyson, Sally Grimes, said that Tyson is now focusing on creating a position of leadership in protein. She believes the brands that have been sold to Kohlberg will do well as the company has a great deal of experience in growing businesses.
Once the transaction has been completed, C.J. Fraleigh will become executive chairman of Kohlberg & Company. He has been an executive in consumer products for many years and was once the chief executive officer of Sara Lee North America. He commented that he is looking forward to identifying growth opportunities and continuing to provide high-quality products for customers.
