Locals to look forward to tales from the past

Tomorrow morning, a special ‘Conversation with Elders’ program will be hosted by the Bedford Hills Historical Museum, the Bedford Historical Society, and the Mt. Kisco Historical Society at the Mt. Kisco Public Library.

Most likely the hosts of the event are using flyer printing to make the local community aware of it, and to attract as many people as possible to head along to learn from the stories of an older generation.

The program is designed to present the life experiences and unique knowledge of the elders in the local villages and towns. These are oral life mini-histories and will be taped for the current and future generations of the community.

The first event in the series will focus on the city and farm life in the area from the 1920s to the 1930s. There will be stories of a woman, aged 101, who will describe the joys and hardships of living in Brooklyn in a cold water flat at the time. Other tales will include how two families survived in the mountains of Vermont and North Carolina before there were running water and electricity, and a farmer from Bedford talking about how deep roots are formed in a community when a family has been living in it for generations.

The event will be held tomorrow, May 10, beginning at 10:00 am.
