Intersection upgrades in Mt. Kisco to be completed this fall

The Department of Transportation (DOT) of New York is currently working on reconfiguring the intersection at routes 117 and 172 in Mt. Kisco, with the project expected to be completed sometime this fall.

Gina Picinich, Mayor of Mt. Kisco, has let the public know that some delays and inconveniences are to be expected by such major work.

Heather Pillsworth, a spokesperson from the DOT, said that the intersection has already been improved with new curbs, sidewalks, traffic signal poles, and drainage systems. She said the next phase will include safety enhancements, including permanent closure and removal of the slip lanes and new crosswalks. The right turn lanes will also be standardized. Landscaping and paving striping will be the final touches on the project.

To provide further details about such projects and the work that is entailed, Print shops can be hired to create materials that can be distributed to the public.

The mayor added that the latest technology will be used in the new traffic signals so that congestion can be eased and traffic can flow more smoothly. Pedestrians will not have to be as fearful as in the past to cross the street from the CVS to Northern Westchester Hospital. The intersection will be both bicycle- and user-friendly. She said that once completed, she is sure people will find the wait worthwhile.
