Andrew Sugrue, a student at Briarcliff High School in Briarcliff Manor, is collecting new, unwrapped toys this holiday season in collaboration with Neighbors Link for a gift drive.
He said to the Chappaqua-Mount Kisco Patch website that this an opportunity to give to those who are in less fortunate circumstances and to enable children to receive a gift at Christmas.
The lobbies of Briarcliff Middle School and Todd Elementary School are where gifts can be dropped off until December 12. After that day, Neighbors Link will take these toys to their Holiday Market, or ‘Mercado de Las Fiestas’, where parents can select or “shop” for toys that are most appropriate for their children.
The Mercado de las Fiestas will then take place on December 17 and 18 at the location in Mt. Kisco. It will be staffed by volunteers who will greet families, help with the selection of gifts, assist with crafts for children, and help with gift wrapping.
Neighbors Link is also looking for schools, scout troops, and the like to organize gift drives. A flyer, perhaps created with help from local flyer printing companies, can be used by group leaders to disseminate information about their drive.
Some of the recommended gifts are Lego and other types of building blocks, puzzles, sporting goods, and gift cards for teenagers.
