The Mt. Kisco Medical Group and the Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center at Northern Westchester Hospital are now enrolling patients for a the latest stage of clinical research study on an advanced-stage breast cancer drug.
The first two phases of testing in humans focused on the safety and effectives of the drug, which is called palbociclib. In the third phase of the clinical trial, the drug is given to a large group or people to confirm that it is effective, monitor any side effects, and draw comparisons with any treatments more commonly used. In the end, information is collected so that the drug can be used safely and its fullest potential can be realized.
According to a medical oncologist at Mt. Kisco Medical Group and medical director of cancer clinical trials at Northern Westchester Hospital, Dr. Jonathan Goldberg, being only one of three sites in the New York tri-state region enables the hospital to provide patients with top-notch care and the latest drug innovations without having to travel long distances.
