The Ambleside, a new country British pub, is now open on Mt. Kisco. It is owned and operated by Drew Hodgson, who opened The Hamlet, a British specialty store, in Mt. Kisco three years ago.
Hoddson said this is a family-friendly pub with lots of artwork and knickknacks that are reminiscent of what would be found in Britain, a dartboard, cozy nooks, and a fireplace. The bar is three feet and four inches in length to accommodate people standing only and is shorter than the standard American bar. It was also made from reclaimed wood that is 100 years old from Manhattan.
The pub has its own keg room and its own specialty brew, Ambleside's Best Bitter, which is made in collaboration with another British-owned company, Old Glenham Brewery in Beacon. The beer is hand poured and served warm. There will typically be seven draft beers and five to six bottled beers.
As this is more of a pub than a restaurant, the food will include such items as bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, and fish and chips. Food is ordered at the bar as there is no table service.
Such new establishments can be promoted throughout a town with flyer printing.
The Ambleside is on East Main Street. The hours are Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
