The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) recently announced that it will once again be holding its Fall Fishing Festival for the family to take place at Hempstead Lake State Park, which is just a few miles west of Massapequa Park.
Peter Scully, the regional director for the DEC, commented that the festival is designed so that people can enjoy the outdoors for a day and learn something about freshwater fishing. The sponsors for the event are the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for New York State, and the I FISH NY Program and Freshwater Fisheries Unit of the DEC.
It Forms part of the ‘NY is Open for Fishing and Hunting Initiative’ that is being promoted by Governor Andrew Cuomo and provides an opportunity for fishing combined with many activities for children so that it can be a rewarding experience for the family.
Scully added that admission and parking are free and no fishing license is required. There will be casting practice, fly-fishing instruction, free bait and loaner rods, and fish cleaning services.
The festival will take place on October 18 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The early announcement of this event will enable printing companies enough time to create Flyers and mailers informing those in the nearby communities of the festival, thus generating enthusiasm and encouraging attendance.
