Massapequa race raises suicide prevention awareness

The fourth annual Outrun the Stigma 5K Run/Walk will return this October.

This community-driven event honors the memory of NYPD Officer Richard Catapano Jr. and others in law enforcement who have died by suicide. The initiative is designed to raise awareness around the mental health struggles faced by officers and to help dismantle the stigma that often prevents them from seeking help.

Organized by Beyond the Badge NY, the 5K route winds through the Massapequa Preserve. Participants are encouraged to run or walk in support of both those lost and those still battling silent internal challenges.

Registration includes a race bib, t-shirt, and wristband granting access to a post-race meal. Entrants who register by September 30th will be guaranteed a t-shirt. Pricing is tiered: $25 through September 1st, $30 through October 13th, and $35 thereafter.

A Kids Fun Run will take place before the main event, with a suggested $5 donation for each child. An awards ceremony and brunch are planned following the race.

Hosts may want to inform individuals about the details of race events such as this one and may use flyer printing to do so.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 25th, from 9 am to 12 pm with check-in beginning at 8:15 am. The location will at the Massapequa Park Preserve, Bethpage Bikeway, Massapequa Park, New York.
