Disaster readiness course offered to residents

The New York Citizen Preparedness Training Program will be presented in Massapequa through a local partnership aimed at improving disaster readiness at the family level.

The course is designed to introduce participants to practical steps for handling both natural and human-caused emergencies. Instruction will focus on planning, immediate response actions, and strategies for recovery after an incident. Topics include building a household emergency strategy, organizing communication plans, and identifying essential supplies needed during disruptions to normal services.

The session is being hosted by the Lions Club of the Massapequas in collaboration with AMVETS Post 88. Each attending household will obtain a free New York State disaster readiness kit intended to support rapid response during emergencies. As this is a community-level event, individuals from neighbouring cities such as Massapequa Park may participate.

Registration is required due to limited seating, and residents are encouraged to enroll early. Sign-ups are available through the state preparedness website. Additional information may be obtained by contacting the event organizer. Admission to the class is free of charge. Additional information may be found through the Patch listing.

Print shops may be utilized by event organizers to create informational Brochures for attendees of events such as this one.

The training will take place on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 am in the AMVETS Post 88 Main Room, 692 Broadway, Massapequa.
