A nonprofit facility for rehabilitation from substance abuse, care for mental health issues, and additional programs, recently received a federal grant to redo its programs and its physical spaces. The grant is in the amount of $4 million, according to an article in Newsday.
The agency receiving the money is the Samaritan Daytop Village, which operates both in Huntington Station, and throughout New York State. The nonprofit's headquarters are in Queens; in Huntington Station, a suburb of Huntington, it operates a prep school for young people who are in rehab, as well as providing other services. In total, it operates in over 50 locations.
The grant, which is for a two-year period, came from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the Department of Health and Human Services, a federal agency. Daytop Village in Huntington Station will use the funds to build additional spaces for education, treatment, and counseling. It also plans to hire additional staff. The changes will allow the facility to increase the number of clients and patients it can treat by over double the number it sees now. Improvements like this can be shared with the community if officials use brochure printing to create materials.
Mitchell Netburn is the chief executive and president of Samaritan Daytop Village and says the renovations will allow the facility to help the “whole person.” comparing it to “one-stop shopping”. The improvements should be completed by summer.
