A live opera performance is to be held this weekend in Huntington.
The event features Mozart’s timeless classic "The Magic Flute." The piece originally premiered in 1791 in Italy and stands as one of the few pieces of Mozart’s work that include both spoken and written dialogue. The performance was well received and has since stood the test of time by being performed across the globe and acquiring two sequels in its wake.
The plot follows the story of Prince Tamino, who, alongside his partner Papageno, is tasked by the queen to retrieve her daughter. To complete their mission, they are given musical instruments that are also magical. Eventually, they reach the High Priest holding the princess captive. The two heroes, as well as the princess, become enchanted by Sarastro’s ideals, such that they decide to join him. The royal family is subsequently vanquished, and the three adopt their new ideals.
This production of the tale will be performed by the Mahanaim Opera Ensemble. This New York-based school of music and theology specializes in putting international talents forward in the field of music.

The performance takes place on Saturday, December 2 at Mahanaim, which is at 300 Naussau Road, Huntington. It begins at 6.30 pm and ends at 7.30 pm.
