Last chance to see exhibits at Heckscher Museum

Huntington residents and people from the nearby area are running out of time to see three exhibits at the Heckscher Museum in Huntington.

The first exhibit, ‘You Go Girl!’ celebrates the works of 50 female artists, from the 19th century to the present. The works, which are both abstract and representational, include sculpture, painting, mixed media, prints, and photos, and express a great variety of issues. Artists include such well-known names as Georgia O’Keeffe and Elaine de Kooning.

A second exhibit, called ‘Men at Work’, explores works depicting men going about their daily activities, and how their actions have shaped human history. Subjects include farmers, soldiers, sailor, entertainers, miners, farmers, and intellectuals. The works capture the emotions of the men in addition to their physical endeavors. Artists here include Thomas Eakins and George Grosz.

The third exhibit is called ‘Street Life: Private Moments/Public Record’ and uses various Forms of art by such notables as N. Jay Jaffee, John Sloan, and Martin Lewis, among others, to show how New Yorkers work, play, and relax. Some of the features examined are New York’s shopping venues, and its legendary transportation system.

The ‘You Go Girl!’ exhibit is slated to close April 3, as is ‘Street Life’. ‘Men at Work’ closes even earlier, on March 27. The museum could quickly create Banners to display near the facility, urging people to visit now.
